Moscow-based Novaya Opera makes its debut in London this spring bringing Prince Igor to the stage of the Coliseum. Rarely performed in the UK, this will be an opportunity to see a full staging of Borodin’s classic opera in an authentic Russian production with a completely Russian cast. Since its inception in 1991, Novaya Opera has become a leading opera house in Russia and its programme of international tours has won it further recognition and acclaim.
All five London performances will be conducted by the eminent Principal Conductor and Head of Artistic Direction of Novaya Opera, Jan Latham-Koenig, who is the first British born conductor to hold such a pivotal role at any Russian opera company.
Novaya Opera is the only Russian opera company visiting London as part of the UK-Russia Year of Culture 2014 celebrations. Spearheaded by The British Council and the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 2014 will see an unprecedented showcase of Russian culture in the United Kingdom honoring the broader artistic heritage of both countries and fostering cultural exchange.
This production of Prince Igor is directed by the multi-award winning Yuri Alexandrov and designed by Vyacheslav Okunev.
Novaya Opera artists Elena Popovskaya and Sergey Artamonov will sing the principal roles of Yaroslavna and Igor in this admired production.
