Former Classic FM Composer in Residence, Patrick Hawes, is giving a free music download on his website.
A special recording of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata (first movement) is available for free at www.patrickhawes.com from today.
Patrick told Classic FM the story about the recording:
"In the summer of 2006 I recorded the first movement of Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata with John Timperley.
He was a legendary recording engineer who worked with a multitude of great artists and founded Angel studios. He died a couple of years ago but, shortly before his death, he rang me to say he had invested in some very expensive microphones and would I nip round to his studio to test them out (I only lived a mile or so away in Maidenhead.)
I played the opening movement of the Moonlight Sonata in one take, and the mixture of the beautiful Yamaha piano and his recording expertise resulted in something really quite lovely."
