As Frederick Delius approaches the 150th anniversary of his birth, Classic FM chats to Chetham's Director of Music Stephen Threlfall about the celebrations he is curating to mark the occasion.

The music of Frederick Delius will receive hearty celebration this week as Chetham's School of Music hosts a four-day series of concerts and events to mark the 150th anniversary of the composer's birth.

Classic FM's Lucy Coward talks to Director of Music Stephen Threlfall about the music of Delius, his plans for the celebration and his collaborations with cellist Rafael Wallfisch. This Friday's concert (19th October), featuring Wallfisch and a Delius programme, will be recorded for future broadcast on Classic FM.

Threlfall also called for a greater resourcefulness in music education, rather than speaking out directly against financial cuts in the arts: "I perceive it as a challenging [situation]… You can either be gloomy and negative about that, or the route I prefer to take is very positive."
