He took home the top prize at the US Van Cliburn International Piano Competition – dubbed ‘The Cliburn’ – when he was just 18 years old, making him the youngest winner in the competition’s history.
He started piano lessons at the age of seven, and attended Music Academy of Seoul Arts Center, Yewon School and Korea National University of Arts in the Republic of Korea.
In 2022, he and his piano teacher Minsoo Sohn, both transferred to the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston.
Lim has since performed all over the world, including at famous concert halls like Carnegie Hall and Wigmore Hall, at Fondation Louis Vuitton, Seoul Arts Center, and the National Concert Hall in Taipei, and many others. He’s also played the festival circuit, including Aspen Music Festival, the Bravo! Vail Music Festival, the Ravinia Festival, Gstaad Menuhin Festival, and Verbier Festival.
Lim signed to Decca in 2023, and has released two recordings: Rachmaninov’s Piano Concerto No.3, with Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra and Marin Alsop, and Chopin: Études, Opp. 10 & 25, which won a raft of awards and five-star praise across the board.

The pianist was featured in the 2023 documentary, Crescendo, which follows the 16th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, including tLim’s historic rise and win.
