Gareth Malone's new choir, Voices, have released a taster from their new album - a choral cover of experimental hip-hop duo Death Grips' song, 'Guillotine'.
The cover, which has been produced by David Kosten (known for producing indie artists like Bat For Lashes and Everything Everything), takes the confrontational original song and turns it into a purely vocal track.
You can listen to the original track here.
Malone commented on the choice of songs: "In choosing music to record for this choir, David Kosten and I asked ourselves the question: 'what is the unlikeliest piece of music for a choir to sing?'"
He continued: "David suggested Death Grips’ track ‘Guillotine’ and we wondered if we could pull it off. The result is, I think, a choir sounding very different from how you’d expect and yet it’s still distinctly a British Choral sound."
The album itself will follow suit, featuring choral interpretations of contemporary artists like Fleet Foxes, Radiohead and Lana Del Rey, and the choir itself is currently planning a world tour. Malone formed the choir after inviting 18-25-year-olds to participate via an online campaign.
