Alex looks at the major musical anniversaries of the coming week, including the 330th anniversary of the birth of J.S. Bach.
Exactly 330 years ago today, a boy was born in Eisenach, Germany, who would go on to become known as the Father of Classical Music.
Tonight, Alex James begins his show by celebrating the genius and the legacy of Johann Sebastian Bach. Join Alex for some of the composer’s finest works, and the story behind his rise to fame.
Other anniversaries of note this week, that Alex will also be marking, include the London premiere of Beethoven's Symphony No.9 (‘Choral’) 190 years ago today, and the 130th anniversary of the opening of the Leipzig Gewandhaus building – home to one of the world's finest orchestras.
In addition, there are wedding bells for the French composer Gabriel Fauré, candles on the cake for the British cellist Natalie Clein, and the story behind how Mozart's final symphony – the ‘Jupiter’ – got its nickname.
