Alex James's Date Night - Saturday 14 February 2015

Blur's Alex James: 'My music for Valentine's Day'

It's Chopin all the way for Classic FM presenter

Alex James looks at the major classical music anniversaries and events of the coming week - and marks St. Valentine's Day, of course.

Tonight Alex James marks St. Valentine's Day and says happy birthday to one of the world’s most popular sopranos, Renée Fleming, born in Indiana on this day in 1959.

We'll also be hearing from a composer who made his public debut on this day in history at the age of just nine, and there’ll be music by the American composer John Adams, who’s celebrating his birthday tomorrow.

Looking ahead over the rest of the week, we’ll find out why, in February 1764, a sore throat nearly finished off a young Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and Alex and explains just why George Gershwin became a radio presenter on 19th February 1934.
