We Hear You

We Hear You (WHY) supports adults and children who are affected by life threatening illnesses, such as cancer.

The charity works across Bath, North East Somerset, Somerset and Wiltshire, providing free counselling sessions for adults and children diagnosed with cancer or other life threatening illness, and their family members.

According to CRUK research, cancer is the number one fear amongst the general public. It affects people profoundly, whether they are ill themselves or are grappling with a parent or sibling’s illness or death.

We Hear You provides services in three local secondary schools and a hub serving 16 primary schools, to reach children and young people from the most deprived backgrounds who might otherwise not have access to counselling.

Sessions use role play, therapeutic play and conversation to help those affected come to terms with what is happening to their lives.

Ben Manning was referred to We Hear You after his dad was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer and passed away just 8 months later. He said:

“[WHY] was the best thing that could have happened at that time; and to be truthful it probably saved my life. Without WHY I wouldn’t be the person I am today. I may not have even been here today. I was skeptical at first because I was so bogged down – I didn’t think that it would help. But it did. I had a wonderful counsellor who helped me through some of the toughest months of my life. I have a lot to thank WHY for!”

Global’s Make Some Noise is proud to support the charity’s expansion into Midsomer Norton, Radstock, and Yeovil – three areas of high deprivation where there is currently no provision for adults or young people in need of emotional support.
