Possibly the world’s finest orchestra, playing out of their skins in surely the world’s finest hall (Vienna’s Musikverein). Harnoncourt’s magisterial interpretation is a revelation: besides bringing out a feast of orchestral detail that’s so often short-changed in performance, he also incorporates some little-known changes made by Bruckner to various copies of the score (such as the end of the slow movement).
