Vanessa Mae splits time between Popstar and slopes
Violinist Vanessa Mae has told Classic FM that she’s spent the last few weeks juggling her appearances as a judge on ITV1’s Popstar to Operastar with ski training and concerts.
The British superstar announced last summer that she was hoping to be selected to represent Thailand as a skier at the 2014 Russia Winter Olympics. She has enjoyed skiing since she was a child but has never had much time to develop her hobby. Now she’s living in Zermatt, from where she’s travelling to London to appear on Popstar to Operastar weekly.
After a childhood devoted entirely to violin-playing – she made her first album aged just 13 – Vanessa is relishing the opportunity to try her hand at other things, as she told Anne-Marie Minhall:
“The Popstar to Operastar project has been fun and it’s nice to dabble in different things without being committed to one formula in my life.”
