Joyce DiDonato goes to the ball

Joyce DiDonato will star in the title role of Cendrillon (Cinderella), which opens at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden tomorrow night.

One of the performances in the run will be broadcast live via BP Summer Big Screens around the country, so it will be seen by thousands of people beyond those who purchase tickets to see it at Covent Garden. Joyce told Classic FM about the rewarding and nerve-wracking experience of performing to so many people.

Joyce also explains why the opera and this production are particularly family-friendly, and that performing opera in such a relaxed atmosphere is authentic.

Plus, Anne-Marie Minhall asks her about her recent recording of Handel’s opera Ariodante.
