Joseph Calleja will be given an honorary degree tonight from the University of Malta.
The Maltese Tenor Joseph Calleja is to receive an honorary degree from the University of Malta at a special ceremony this evening. The qualification is known as an honoris causa and will be bestowed on Calleja by a Doctor of Literature.
Currently on tour in Corinthia, the honour comes after Calleja was recently announced as Malta's ambassador for culture. At only 34 years old, the tenor is already becoming one of the world's most popular tenors.
Calleja also recently triumphed at the 2012 Gramophone Awards, scooping the Artist of the Year Award. He is due to sing at La Scala in Italy under the baton of Riccardo Chailly in February 2013.
His latest album, Be My Love (a tribute to Mario Lanza), also hit the top of Danish pop charts in recent weeks.
