But it's not whisky that makes Edinburgh citizens light-headed at the Usher Hall; rather, music. Lots of it. The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra under the legendary conductor Bruno Walter played here at the first Edinburgh Festival in 1947. Today, the recently renovated auditorium – it needed a bit of work after a large lump of plaster fell 136 feet from the ceiling in 1986 - hosts all of Scotland's major orchestras.
