20. Kicking off our top 20 albums of the year, it's one of two stellar discs from JEG this year, the other being his Bach Motets disc. This one, though, is a scintillating live recording of two of the biggest Beethoven symphonies from Carnegie Hall. The concert (which toured most of the US and London) has an intuitive feel and some incredibly exhilarating moments - but this year was a particularly good one for Beethoven recordings...
