When you’re a great conductor, you don’t have time for babysitting musicians. And when they’re really getting on your nerves, sometimes you have to yell. Just look at Leopold Stokowski from 1 minute into this video:
And then enjoy the rest of it, because it’s a joyful and enlightening experience - pianist Jerome Lowenthal is note-perfect as Stokowski works the orchestra intensely hard, but it’s all done with plenty of explanation and reasoning.
