Freddy Kempf's fresh recording of Beethoven's classic sonatas - the 'Appassionata', 'Moonlight' and 'Pathétique'.
Repertoire: Beethoven Sonatas Nos 8, 14 & 23
Artists: Freddy Kempf
One could linger on the details of the performances – the quirky pedalling in the opening bars of the ‘Pathétique’, the mannered close of its first movement, the superbly articulated finale of the ‘Appassionata’ and the somewhat perfunctory coda of the ‘Moonlight’ – but if this oft-recorded combination of Beethoven’s three most popular sonatas isn’t going to change the course of history it is nevertheless a fine achievement. Beautifully recorded, excellent notes.
