Celebrating Sir Charles Mackerras

It’s almost a year since the legendary conductor Sir Charles Mackerras died, and English National Opera are paying tribute to him in a special memorial concert this weekend.

Sir Charles had a long association with English National Opera, and the concert will be conducted by three of ENO’s Music Directors past and present: Sir Mark Elder, Paul Daniel and Edward Gardner.

Edward Gardner, current Music Director of ENO, told us about the unstinting support he received from Sir Charles, the high standards Sir Charles commanded from his musicians and how he was adored by everyone in the music industry.

Sir Charles Mackerras: A Celebration in Music takes place at London’s Coliseum on Sunday 26 June.
