Listen again to Charlotte's interviews in the podcast below.
This week Sir Karl Jenkins talks about his newly published memoir, Still With The Music. From a modest upbringing in Penclawdd, Wales, steeped in the Welsh choral tradition and the Western classical canon, Karl followed his love of music to London, immersing himself in the 1960s jazz world of Ronnie Scott’s, before joining the seminal prog-rock group Soft Machine. These diverse influences made him one of the most successful composers in the dynamic advertising industry of the 1980s, ultimately leading to his landmark Adiemus project in the 1990s, which inspired him to create the works that have now moved so many.
Also on today's programme, a musician of a very different kind: rock star Alice Cooper. He is the narrator on a recording called Peter and the Wolf in Hollywood, a brand-new version of Prokofiev's classic – with the action taking place in LA and in which the hunters are paparazzi.
And Samoan/New Zealand family vocal ensemble Sole Mio pop in to talk about their hopes for the forthcoming Rugby World Cup.
