'We'll meet again' for Christmas No. 1?

Following her extraordinary achievement in topping the albums chart with 'We'll Meet Again - the Very Best of Vera Lynn', Dame Vera Lynn is aiming to reach number one in the Christmas singles chart. A new version of her most loved track, 'We'll Meet Again', will be released on 23 November.

The arrangement blends the original vocals, recorded by Dame Vera in 1939, when she was just 22, with backing from the 60-strong Fron Male Voice Choir. Cutting edge audio technology from Audionamix has allowed Dame Vera's original vocal track to be isolated for the first time. The 92-year-old, who recently became the oldest artist to top the albums chart, comments: ‘I’m amazed this is possible. It’s wonderful!’

A former ‘Forces’ Sweetheart’, Dame Vera was guest of honour at this year's Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall, at which current ‘Forces’ Sweetheart’ Hayley Westenra performed ‘We'll Meet Again’, backed by The Fron Male Voice Choir.

The Fron was formed in 1947, in the aftermath of the Second World War. Dennis Williams, a founding member says: ‘Vera was my sweetheart during the war, I was a young boy suffering from all the emotions of such a conflict… To have someone sing beautiful songs of better times to come was just what we all wanted.’

Dame Vera and her supporters hope that they may beat Simon Cowell in the competition to reach number one this Christmas. X-Factor winners have topped the charts for the last four years.

‘We'll Meet Again’ by Dame Vera Lynn and the Fron Male Voice Choir will be released on Decca on 23 November.  It will also feature on the Fron Male Voice Choir's new album, ‘Memory Lane’, to be released the same day.
