Classic FM's John Suchet has been named International Radio Personality of the Year at the Association for International Broadcasting Awards.

Picking up the award at the London ceremony last night, Suchet triumphed over a shortlist of radio presenters from America and Russia in the International Broadcasting Awards.

Asked if he missed the news reporting he made his name with, he commented: "Once a news-junkie, always a news-junkie. But I miss it now with a smile on my face – I have moved on to broadcasting about my passion, and I love every minute of it."

He added: "It's a pleasure and a privilege to broadcast the world's greatest music."

Classic FM's Managing Director Darren Henley also tweeted his congratulations to the presenter:

Suchet's other show for Classic FM, 'Beethoven: The Man Revealed', was also nominated in the Creative Feature in Radio category.
