Royal Choral Society – Handel’s Messiah on Good Friday

Tickets are now on sale for the Royal Choral Society’s 136th Good Friday afternoon performance of Handel’s Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall – on Friday 18th April at 2.30pm.

The Royal Choral Society has performed Handel’s magnificent oratorio Messiah at the Royal Albert Hall on Good Friday every year since 1878. It is thought that the Royal Choral Society has sung this magnificent work more times than any other choir; we estimate it at around 272 performances. This is one of London’s great Easter traditions and the perfect way for music lovers to mark Good Friday.

From the earliest days, the finest orchestras, conductors and soloists have joined the RCS at the Royal Albert Hall on Good Friday afternoon. The soloists over the years have included the world’s leading singers:  Kathleen Ferrier, Peter Pears, Janet Baker, Robert Tear, Benjamin Luxon, Felicity Palmer, Thomas Allen, Kiri Te Kanawa, Susan Bullock, Michael Chance, Willard White and many more. We continue this great tradition at the Royal Albert Hall on 18 April 2014 at 2.30pm with the 136th annual performance. A stellar line up of soloists, together with the choir and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, will perform under the baton of the Royal Choral Society’s current Musical Director, Richard Cooke.
