Jonathan James: Beethoven's Visionary Quartets

Jonathan James will explore what some see as the pinnacle of Beethoven's output, his string quartets, to kick off the third day of the Bristol Proms.

Beethovenian Jonathan James follows yesterday's talk on The Music That Went To War with this similarly involving topic, this time focusing on the string quartets of Ludwig Van Beethoven.

Tying in neatly with the Sacconi Quartet's concert later on this evening, James will explore the power of this section of Beethoven's output and show exactly why so many people, scholars and casual listeners alike, hold them in such high regard.
