Music Teacher of the Year Awards conclude

The final two winners of the Classic FM Music Teacher of the Year competition were announced at the Music For Youth Schools Prom last night at the Royal Albert Hall.

Music Teacher Of The Year Awards

Jocelyn Watkins from Treloar School in Alton, Hampshire, took home the Special Educational Needs award, while Birmingham-based Peter Bridle won the coveted Lifetime Achievement award for his work at King Edward's School.

Both were presented with their awards by Classic FM's Catherine Bott on stage at the Royal Albert Hall, as part of the final night of the Music For Youth Schools Prom concerts.

Watkins commented: "My reaction to the award was total disbelief but delight that music can be recognised as a vital part of education for all children, especially for those at Treloar's... and it was nice to get the champagne out!"

Bridle paid tribute to his students: "I would like to thank them all and encourage them to continue with their music-making, and pass there enjoyment of listening and performing music on to their own children and grandchildren, when that time comes!"
