French conductor Laurence Equilbey brings her new ensemble Insula orchestra with the renowned choir accentus to London for their UK debut at the Barbican Centre with a programme of masterpieces entitled Magnificat.
Win one of five pairs of tickets to the concert, plus Insula's new album Orfeo ed Euridice featuring Franco Fagioli by answering the question below.
Founded in 2012, Insula orchestra takes an invigoratingly new approach both to performance and repertoire. Mozart’s (actually far-from-solemn) Vespers form the centre of its London debut: but founder-conductor Laurence Equilbey makes an impassioned case for rediscoveries by CPE Bach and Zelenka.
'Unfettered' was how Diapason described Insula orchestra’s inaugural recording of Mozart’s Requiem, and it’s a quality that’s perfectly suited to this richly enjoyable programme, whether in the shamelessly dramatic Miserere by Bohemian maverick Jan Dismas Zelenka or the exuberant celebration of CPE Bach’s Magnficat.
