John's CD of the week: Downton Abbey

As the new series of Britain’s favourite television period drama series gets underway, Decca Records is proud to announce the release of the Downton Abbey album, containing the original music from the ITV1 television series.

Renowned British composer John Lunn is the man behind the magic. His original music conjures up the perfect atmosphere for the happenings of the aristocratic Crawley family and their servants as their lives unfold at Downton Abbey, early in the reign of King George V.

With his gift for delicate orchestration, Lunn possesses a wonderfully unique voice that commands the full range of musical style. Contemporary in attitude but classically trained, his sensitive approach creates a musical ambiance that unerringly evokes the emotional core of the Downton drama.  In admiration, the production team and cast members regard him as “the unsung hero of Downton” (Michelle Dockery, AKA Lady Mary Crawley).

Lunn’s previous TV soundtrack successes include Little Dorrit, Marchlands, Going Postal, Bleak House and Auf Wiedersehen, Pet. His score to Getting Hurt, the BBC Screen Two Film, won the Royal Television Society's award for Best Original Music and his music to Bad Blood (Carlton) was also nominated for an Ivor Novello Award.
