Jon Lord to compose for youth orchestra

Rock icon Jon Lord will compose a brand new classical work for the Henley Festival Orchestra, a youth orchestra of 70 children from across the Thames Valley.

The special commission marks the first time Lord has written a work for young classical musicians. Lord himself suggested the idea on accepting the post of one of three Honorary Patrons of the Festival’s Patrons’ Club.

Henley Festival Orchestra was created in 2008 and is funded by the Henley Festival, which takes place on the banks of the Thames every summer. The Orchestra equips more than 70 children across the Thames Valley with a musical instrument, tuition and performance opportunities throughout the year.
