The World's Greatest Music
The Argentine pianist Ingrid Fliter is admired by audiences all over the world and has been particularly praised for her performances of Chopin. She's also an accomplished painter.
In 2006, Fliter became the fifth recipient of the Gilmore Artist Award, the first woman to win it, after judges considered 450 eligible pianists. The award, established in Michigan in 1989, is given every four years to a pianist who possesses profound musicianship and charisma. The prize money is $300,000, of which $50,000 can be spent as the winner desires and $250,000 must be used for career development. Photo: Gary Houlder
