Hilary Hahn gives an exclusive performance of unaccompanied Bach from her new album, 'Hilary Hahn plays Bach'.
Hilary Hahn released her debut album Hilary Hahn plays Bach in 1997, aged only 17. Now she follows it with the remainder of Bach's unaccompanied violin sonatas and partitas in her new album Hilary Hahn plays Bach: Violin Sonatas Nos. 1 & 2, Partita No. 1.
Here, Hilary plays the Double (Presto) from Bach's Partita for Violin Solo No. 1 in B Minor.
With these new recordings, Hilary completes her set of solo sonatas and partitas by Bach which she began 21 years ago. Reflecting on these works, she said: “This set of works has been a touchstone of my musical life. What you hear in this completion of my solo Bach set is therefore the best recording that I feel I can offer at this point in my life.
“I love these pieces. Indulging in the freedom of the moment is the only way to attain an honest performance, and the moments and grand gestures that Bach gifted violinists through these works are magically infinite.”
