The new English National Opera production of the Marriage of Figaro opens at the London Coliseum next week. We've been speaking to Fiona Shaw, the opera's director, all about it.
Fiona Shaw is perhaps best known for her theatre work, but The Marriage of Figaro sees her revisit the opera world for a third time, having previously directed Henze’s Elegy for Young Lovers (which received an Olivier Award-nomination) and Vaughan Williams' Riders to the Sea.
In our interview, Fiona spoke to Classic FM's Lucy Coward about putting her own twist on an opera staple, and how her theatre training and her previous experiences have helped her bring Mozart's masterpiece to the ENO.
The Marriage of Figaro opens at the London Coliseum on 5 October 2011 for 10 performances – Oct 5, 12, 14, 19, 21, 26 & Nov 3, 5, 10 at 7pm & Oct 29 at 6pm
