CD of the week: Fantasy - A Night at the Opera

1 March: CD of the Week is Fantasy – A Night at the Opera by Emmanuel Pahud.

Last week’s CD of the Week was by Albrecht Mayer, oboist of the Berlin Philharmonic. This week’s is by another Berlin Philharmonic member.

Emmanuel Pahud was made Principal Flautist of the Berlin Phil at the astonishingly young age of 22. He has also appeared as a soloist with the Orchestra, and with other leading international orchestras including the London Philharmonic, Marrinski and Camerata Salzburg, under conductors like Claudio Abbado, Sir Simon Rattle, Lorin Maazel, Valery Gergiev and Mstislav Rostropovich.

Fantasy – A Night at the Opera is a collection of some of opera's best loved melodies, reworked for flute and orchestra into a set of dazzling showpieces. Highlights include a set of variations on Mozart's Magic Flute and a playful piece based on Verdi's La Traviata.
