Every Saturday night at 9pm-10pm, David Mellor reviews all the latest classical music releases.
David Mellor casts his eye - and ears - over the latest classical music albums.
This week, David Mellor casts his critical ear over the third volume in a series called Mendelssohn in Birmingham, with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra conducted by Edward Gardner. The album features the second in a trilogy of concert overtures, Calm Sea and Prosperous Voyage, as well as Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 2.
David also samples some English classics given the military band treatment by Wing Commander Duncan Stubbs and The Central Band of the Royal Air Force.
And we hear from countertenor Iestyn Davies – recorded live at London's Wigmore Hall.
