Corp conducts Sullivan

Corp and his players are the ideal champions for this fare.

Composer: Sullivan
Repertoire:  Prodigal Son Boer; War Te Deum
Artists: Soloists, The New London Orchestra & Chorus/Corp
Rating: 3/5
Genre: Orchestral
Label: Hyperion CDA67423

Both these rarely heard works illustrate that Sullivan had little original to say that had not been said earlier, and more memorably, by Mendelssohn and Schumann. That said, Sullivan’s craftsmanship, melodic charm and occasional flashes of brilliance (like working his own tune to Onward, Christian soldiers into the final pages of the Te Deum) make them well worth hearing.
