You need to hear the ‘Rhapsody in Blue’ gliss played on piccolo trumpet

George Gershwin’s immortal Rhapsody in Blue is given a fantastically brassy spin in this version from Brandon Ridenour.

Using the piece to give us a tour of several brass instruments (including muted trumpet and flugelhorn), Ridenour’s interpretation of the classic piece is scintillating.

Even though all those jazzy melodies lend themselves perfectly to his instrument choices, it’s the radical decision to perform the opening clarinet glissando on piccolo trumpet that makes this one really stand out. Give it a watch:
