This prog-metal version of Rhapsody in Blue is quite something

Legendary prog band Liquid Tension Experiment’s rendition of the jazzy orchestra classic is currently making our day.

If you thought the world of prog rock was all about middle-aged beardy blokes playing stupidly long, classically-influenced pieces in ludicrously difficult time signatures, then… well, you were right, obviously.

During their reunion tour last year, prog-metal legends Liquid Tension Experiment (a band started by former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy) deployed this meaty version of George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue.

The results are quite astonishing:
