Hélène Grimaud is a world-class pianist who loves the company of wolves, writes novels and fearlessly re-interprets the great classics.
She also experiences synesthaesia, where she sees music as colour. She first noticed it aged 11, while playing Bach and seeing a 'shapeless stain . . . between orange and red.' Seeing music as colours, she says, helps her memorise scores.
