Central Band of the Royal Air Force: British Classics

Classic FM Drive Featured Album, weekday afternoons after 6pm.

This new recording by the outstanding Central Band of the Royal Air Force, conducted by Wing Commander Duncan Stubbs, features some of the greatest and most iconic British pieces in the wind band repertoire. They include Vaughan Williams' English Folk Song Suite, Tomlinson's Suite of English Folk Dances, and Gustav Holst's Suites for Military Band

There are less well-known pieces on offer too, including Gordon Langford's Rhapsody for trombone and brass band which is a gift to the trombonist who might often be hard pressed to find decent solo works for his instrument. Here the soloist Jonathan Hill acquits himself brilliantly with clear technical virtuosity and a wide expressive range of tone, colour and dynamic control.

Undoubtedly an album to enjoy, and one that continues the proud tradition of musical excellence that is synonymous with The Central Band of the Royal Air Force.
