Saturday Night at the Movies, 8 November 2014, 5pm. Howard Goodall celebrates a significant birthday for the American actor.
The Hollywood movie star Leonardo DiCaprio turns 40 this week.
Since his movie debut in This Boy's Life (1993), the actor has been nominated for five Oscars and won two Golden Globes, for The Aviator (2004) and The Wolf of Wall Street (2013).
DiCaprio has also won critical and popular acclaim for such films as What's Eating Gilbert Grape (1993), The Basketball Diaries (1995) and William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet (1996), before achieving international superstardom in James Cameron's Titanic (1997), which became the highest grossing movie at the time. Since the 2000s, DiCaprio has been lauded for his work in such films as Catch Me If You Can (2002), Gangs of New York (2002), Blood Diamond (2006), The Departed (2006), Revolutionary Road (2008), Shutter Island (2010), Inception (2010), and Django Unchained (2012).
To mark the actor's auspicious birthday, Howard Goodall is dedicating his show to some of DiCaprio's greatest films from across the decades and their scores.
This week’s show starts though with an hour of music about movie heroines, as suggested by Sally in Plymouth. Howard promises an inspiring selection of music including on-screen leaders and campaigners as well as heroines behind the camera.
