Our Great Orchestras of the World series continues – and tonight, Jane Jones celebrates one of Europe’s finest: Staatskapelle Dresden.

Colin Davis will conducts the orchestra in Mozart’s overture to The Abduction from the Seraglio and Beethoven’s Leonore Overture No.3.  There are also a couple of concertos: a modern recording of Schumann’s Piano Concerto with the soloist Helene Grimaud, and a wonderful archive performance of the Tchaikovsky Violin Concerto from David Oistrakh that’s not to be missed.
