The Full Works Concert - Monday 18 February 2013: Great Orchestras of the World
Throughout February, Jane Jones is profiling a different ensemble as part of our Great Orchestras of the World series – and tonight, it’s the turn of the Mahler Chamber Orchestra.
British conductor Daniel Harding bookends our concert: he’ll be on the podium for Mozart’s Overture to Don Giovanni and Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, featuring the French violinist Renaud Capuçon. In between, Claudio Abbado conducts a complete performance of Rachmaninov’s Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with the pianist Yuja Wang, as well as Brahms’s beautiful yet rarely-heard Serenade in D major.
