David dedicates his show to the music of Ireland in celebration of St Patrick’s Day.
24 March 2013
This week, David dedicates his show to two acclaimed musicians who recently passed away: the multi-talented German conductor and pianist Wolfgang Sawallisch and the American pianist Van Cliburn, who made history when he won the first International Tchaikovsky Piano Competition. David promises a two-hour celebration of the life and works of these two men, selecting some of their most significant recordings. We’ll hear about Sawallisch’s appearances at the Bayreuth Festival – he was the youngest conductor to be invited there – and Cliburn’s prize-winning performances on 11th April 1958 in Moscow.
