Saturday Night at the Movies: Saturday 2 November
A tribute to John Barry on the eve of the 80th anniversary of his birth.
On the eve of the 80th anniversary of the birth of John Barry, which falls tomorrow, Howard Goodall presents a special programme celebrating one of Hollywood's most popular – and most missed – film composers.
John Barry was the son of a Yorkshire cinema projectionist, who went on to write dozens of award-winning scores – from Born Free and Out of Africa to Dances with Wolves and The Lion in Winter.
Barry is best remembered by millions, though, as the man behind all sorts of James Bond soundtracks, including Goldfinger, You Only Live Twice and From Russia with Love.
Howard features all of these and more, as he pays tribute to a true musical great.
