Nishat Khan is one of the world’s best sitar players – and he performed two improvisations just for us

Nishat is a composer and sitar player and he’ll be performing at this year’s Aldeburgh Festival.

He performed two raags for us – one inspired by the evening, and one by the morning.

Nishat Khan’s evening raag

You can see Nishat performing raags and plainchant with the male voice Saint Ephraim Choir, on 15 June. And on 17 June he’ll be performing a programme of raags inspired by the time of day, location, light and atmosphere, in Orford Church.

Snape Maltings Concert Hall – where many of the events of the Aldeburgh Festival events are held – is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, on 2 June. This year, to coincide with the anniversary, Snape Maltings will be announcing new plans for the development of the site to allow more activities to take place as part of their artist development, learning and inclusion programmes.
