Between 1863 and 1872, Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume created these four instruments, each with an intricate carving of one of the four Evangelists, St Matthew, St Mark, St Luke and St John. He also created at least five others, bearing the image of other saints. Amazingly the four 'Evangelist' instruments have remained together – and here we take a closer look at them ahead of their auction on 15th March at Ingles & Hayday.
The Evangelist instruments are being loaned to the Ruisi Quartet, who are taking part in the Royal Overseas League competition later this week.
