The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra presented the world premiere performance of Polar on Saturday 8 January. Polar takes the audience on a journey to the Arctic and Antarctic, combining stunning new HD footage with new and familiar live music.
Composer, conductor and saxophonist John Harle composed new music and arranged existing music for Polar's orchestral soundtrack. You can hear John talking about Polar in an interview in the Music section of classicfm.com.
The stunning new footage was captured by award-winning wildlife filmmakers and photographers, including Canadian Polar explorer Mark Terry and husband and wife team Sue Flood and Doug Allan, who was recently honoured by Her Majesty The Queen with a rare second clasp to his Polar Medal.
The soundtrack includes music by Bach, Stravinsky, Rautavaara, Purcell, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven and Sibelius, as well as new music by John Harle.
