A new study has shown that playing the violin for an hour burns the same amount of calories as drinking two glasses of wine.
The study, carried out by caloriecount.com and reported by The Violin Channel, estimates that one hour of violin playing will burn around 170 calories, which is equivalent to two glasses of wine (3.5 fluid ounces).
It's also comparable to half a Snickers bar, almost a whole can of Coca-Cola and 20% of a McDonald's Big Mac with cheese.
Other musical activities considered in the study include conducting, which also burned around 170 calories per hour.
However, a drummer in a marching band can expect to burn 238 calories per hour, which is the equivalent of almost eight carrots. Classical guitarists, on the other hand, can only expect to burn around 136 calories per hour.
