Classic FM Scoop Top Music Prize

It's official, Classic FM is the best music radio station in the UK after picking up two of the top music prizes at the prestigious Sony Radio Awards.

Judges at the prestigious Sony Radio Academy Awards gave a big thumbs up to Classical Music when they awarded Classic FM with the Gold Award in The Music Programming category at the 27th annual Sony Radio Academy Awards, at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel last night.

Beating off stiff competition from up-to-the-minute pop stations BBC Radio 1 and Magic 105.4FM, Classic FM was praised by judges for it's musical output which spans the great music of composers such as Bach, Haydn and Mozart right through to popular contemporary composers like Howard Goodall and John Williams.

"Tying together varied and disparate styles of music with subtlety and verve, Classic FM have achieved a listen that is compelling and accessible, yet doesn't shy away from exposing the listener to unfamiliar styles and genres," praised the judges. "Programmed with creativity and panache and presented with passion and credibility, delivering a flow of music which could come from anytime in the past 500 years".

Congratulations also goes to Classic FM presenter Alex James who picked up the Bronze Award for The Music Broadcaster of the Year for his "informative, entertaining and off-the-wall approach" to presenting the A to Z of Classic FM .
