The Royal Choral Society presents Puccini at the Palace at London’s Alexandra Palace – an unforgettable night of romance, drama, passion and power, celebrating iconic moments from operatic and choral masterpieces by Puccini and Verdi.
Founded in 1871, the Royal Choral Society is one of Britain’s longest-established and most prestigious symphonic choirs and remains at the cornerstone of the UK’s choral landscape. Formed for the opening of the Royal Albert Hall, the choir is best known for its annual Good Friday performances of Handel’s Messiah.
The programme features spectacular showpieces including the stirring ‘Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves’ from Nabucco, the majestic ‘Grand March’ from Aida, the sublime ‘O mio babbino caro’ from Gianni Schicchi and course, the spine-tingling ‘Nessun dorma’ from Turandot.
You’ll also hear favourite arias and duets from Tosca, La bohème and La Traviata and many more.
Alexandra Palace, or ‘Ally Pally’ as it is known to locals, is one of London’s best loved music venues with a long history of hosting opera – including performances by the Alexandra Palace Operatic and Dramatic Society in the 1920s and 30s. Throughout the 20th century it has served as a renowned exhibition hall, public park and concert venue, with a 3,000-capacity theatre that has brought pantomime, opera, drama and ballet to the masses.
Joining the Royal Choral Society for this evening of pure operatic magic will be soprano Kirsty Taylor-Stokes, tenor Thomas Elwin, bass Malachy Frame, and the London Mozart Players conducted by Richard Cooke.
If you love the glorious music and dramatic splendour of grand opera then this is the evening for you.
