Discover exhilarating music, theatre, opera and dance at this year's Edinburgh International Festival.

Committed to virtuosity and originality, the Edinburgh International Festival presents some of the finest performers and ensembles from the worlds of dance, opera, music and theatre for three weeks every August.

The 2016 programme is packed with unmissable experiences. From stirring performances from visiting orchestras such as the Orchestra dell’Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, the Gewandhausorchester Leipzig, the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and the Russian National Orchestra to spellbinding recitals from major soloists like pianist Daniil Trifonov, Sir András Schiff, Richard Goode, Maxim Vengerov and Mikhail Pletnev.

Three foreign language Shakespeare plays from the Schäubuhne Berlin, Dan Jemmet and Cheek By Jowl/Pushkin Theatre challenge our preconceptions about how Shakespeare should be performed in this, the 400th anniversary of his death.

World-class opera from the Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, the Salzburg Festival and the Mariinsky Opera will leave us breathless.

Outstanding choral moments bookend the Usher Hall opening and closing concerts, which feature the Edinburgh Festival Chorus performing Rossini’s Stabat Mater and Schoenberg’s rarely performed Gurrelieder.

Compelling, exciting and often surprising, the International Festival is, quite simply, an unmissable experience.

The Edinburgh International Festival 2016 runs 5th-29th August.
