An all-star line-up including Andrea Bocelli, Ball & Boe and Bryn Terfel will hit the Royal Albert Hall on June 13th for the return of the Classic BRIT Awards.
For the first time in five years, the Classic BRIT Awards will honour the best in classical music, as well as music from film, television, theatre and games.
The first wave of artists performing on the night have been confirmed as: Andrea Bocelli, Michael Ball & Alfie Boe, Tokio Myers and Bryn Terfel.
A special Lifetime Achievement award will also be presented to Dame Vera Lynn, who celebrated her 101st birthday earlier this week.
This year, the awards will focus on the future of music with the launch of The Sound of Classical poll, which will promote the best emerging artists in classical music. The winner of this poll, voted by a panel of industry experts, will be announced at the ceremony.
The awards will be hosted by Classic FM’s very own Myleene Klass and Alexander Armstrong. We caught up with Myleene at the Royal Albert Hall to talk about the Classic BRIT Awards and how reality TV has birthed a new way of accessing classical music.
“There’s so much gravitas in that kind of music, and an appreciation for the fact that no-one can fudge that kind of talent… I’m from reality shows, and it’s taken for me to enter through the world of reality shows to be able to bring classical music to a different audience.”
“If this how other people have that foothold in the world of music or become exposed to it, I’m all for it.”
Tickets go on sale at 9AM on Friday 23rd March - more information here. The ceremony will be broadcast on ITV on June 17th.
