World-renowned violist Kim Kashkashian was born in Detroit, Michigan. Her breakthrough came in 1980, when she was awarded second prize at the Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition and the ARD International Music Competition in Munich.
She has gone on to champion both traditional repertoire for her instrument and new music, with a number of acclaimed recordings on the ECM label.
Here she is with Brahms Viola Sonata No. 2. Stunning stuff.
